8:20 pm: Small bookshelf moved to front of dresser. CDs (birth to 1997) piled real high next to dresser -- a big pain, if that gets knocked over, but the risk is necessary, because it's either that, or a location farther away that involves getting up to move each handful of discs. Or putting them on the bed, where they shift every time I take a step, and since the dresser is now completely blocking all non-bed routes of egress from this back corner, that would suck.

There isn't even enough room to climb up on the bed while holding the now-empty shelf, so I tipped it over along the longest open diagonal path, scooted under the nearly-overturned shelf, balancing on the bed by one of its upper corners, and pulled it into the new CD-shelf nook.

Unfortunately, I'd forgotten about the dresser CDs. They're blocking one of the two existing spots for the old shelves to go into, and this shelf has some decoration on one side that would be concealed if I put it in the open spot permanently. So those have to be relocated before I can do anything else, and they can't get comingled with the shelf CDs or I'll be in an agony of sorting.

If the small bookshelf weren't blocking the dresser, the end would already be in sight; I could just slop the last shelf of discs into piles up against the comic-book boxes (currently bulwarking the small bookshelf, but very easy to move) and bring the large bookshelf up from the basement, then go to sleep. However, I need to be able to get to my clothes tomorrow. At worst, I move the bookshelf/comic/first-shelf-discs complex a foot to the left, get clothes, move them back, and continue as above. Which, obviously, I really want to do.

Just watched Survivor. I'd enjoy this West Wing rerun more, as it turns out, but I've had enough of a break.

But first, because I'm not planning ahead nearly far enough, I have to go down into the basement and see if the large bookshelf has the little pins in the side that make it possible to actually put shelves into it. Otherwise the fun will extend into tomorrow evening. After the movie, I guess. I was really hoping for a one-day thing.

can I just tell you how amused I've been, reading this chronicle of your rearranging exploits?

I'm with her. It's strangely enthralling.
