cursive and azure ray: surprisingly not horrible. cursive sound like the world/inferno friendship society, only more serious.

though i still contend that the best band on saddle creek would be the no-vocal/all-instrumental band.

have you heard any van dyke parks? i have a feeling you might dig him, though i know you've moved on from lush pop and into angular rock.

I've never heard Van Dyke Parks. I first heard his name dropped in connection with Brian Wilson, and later Rufus Wainwright, neither of which made me want to check him out.

his work is incredibly fucked up, more along the harry nilsson lines but very cerebral. he also writes amazing arrangements, which makes me think you might find a few things to appreciate about him.
