In July 1969, William Safire (then a presidential speechwriter) wrote a short speech for Nixon to give if the Apollo astronauts were unable to leave the moon:

"Fate has ordained that the men who went to the moon to explore in peace will stay on the moon to rest in peace..." (Read more.)

There must be countless other speeches like this, and now I want to read them.

The Catholic Church - "The Sad Magician" (mp3)

The bass guitar is so buzzy, and the vocals so processed, that I don't even know if this counts as irritating. Even the screams at the end aren't all that harsh; they just sound like the Lawnmower Man. On the other hand, there's all the screaming and, you know, white noise and stuff. Unsurprisingly-- given the hugeness of the bassline that runs all the way through-- this is a side project, very short-lived, by the bassist from another band. (Young) Pioneers, I think.
