[music] ROBYN - Robyn
Aug. 4th, 2005 11:32 amThe disc I heard is a promo censored for airplay, so I had to ask the internet what the scrambled word in the lyric "you're a selfish narcissistic psycho freakin' boot-licking [brznp] creep" was. Turns out the word was "Nazi". I can believe it might have offended people, but without it the line is so unfunny that I somehow imagined it would be something worse.
(Best overzealous censorship ever: In 1995, when Everclear hit MTV, the network bleeped out a word in the chorus of "Heroin Girl", which goes "I can hear them talking in the real world / But they don't understand / That I'm happy in hell with my heroin girl". Which word did they cut out? Was it "hell"? Was it "heroin", because their policy of not showing drug paraphernalia had been extended to words? Was it "real", to protect their trademark on "The Real World"?
No, it was "happy". Sure, the song might already be about how sad the narrator is that his girlfriend overdosed, but you wouldn't want kids getting confused and shooting smack because they were exposed to the idea that some guy was happier when his lover was alive than when she died.)
