Roughly two years ago, my German subletter watched S__ and I throwing bizarre garments and pieces of hardware into bags for a week, patiently listening to us chatter about our plans, until he could not contain his bafflement any longer, and asked,

"So... vhy do you need all zese clothes to go to Birmingham?"
