I actually have never gotten the Neko Case thing, and didn't miss her.
Newman's lyrics don't always add up to much, but I do find myself enjoying his songs more when I know them now (and occasionally a line will get me, like "And that's just three off the top of my head" from Come Crash) (how prosaic! why is that even interesting? I don't know).
