[mp3] This is a story that has no parts
Jun. 1st, 2005 05:56 pmImagine Out Of Time-era R.E.M. playing a song they wrote around the time of Murmur. Now imagine all this happening in 1996 with a name on the cover that sounds like it might involve Eyeless In Gaza. I suspect a lot of people missed out on this who would have really dug it.
Greg Jacobs wrote a lot of songs that, like this one, were resigned and pessimistic but somehow not sad. For that matter, Jacobs always seems to be making excuses for either his behavior or someone else's, and yet you never get the feeling that horrible wrongs have been committed; he hangs around in that state where acquiring perspective on your problems has freed you from caring about them but, you realize, can't actually free you from the problems themselves.
Jacobs has a new band called Verona Downs that I haven't explored at all. Weeping In Fits And Starts put out two albums, of which this is from the first while Amazon only knows of the existence of the second, but they're both pretty good.
