When Buckingham sang, as if from far away, "If I see you again will it be over?" I thought it captured the ambivalence of wanting both certainty and the continuation of a relationship but knowing that asking for the former probably means NOT getting the latter except that my god even WRITING that makes it sound ponderous and perhaps not such a good idea for a story. I think the song itself, in any case, is not meant to be ambivalent.
