Marks the first time that a Zappa first-listen for me has been more or less like a new album usually goes for me: maybe two-thirds struck me on first listen as clearly good or bad, the rest needing another listen, and my impression of one track no longer sloshing over to the next as I tried to get traction.
In other words, I think I was only trying to figure out whether it was a thing I liked, not whether it was the KIND of thing I liked.
Just in the past few days, I've listened to One Size Fits All a lot and become convinced it had serious genius. Maybe half of this belongs in the same category; "I'm The Slime" and "Montana" don't go anywhere (my god, already I'm so used to six-minute songs that I expect them to GO SOMEWHERE?) and "Dinah-Moe Humm"'s just too laid-back.
If I'm going to have to suddenly find shelf space for a dozen or two records by the same artist over the course of a few weeks (hasn't happened yet, but looks likely), a name beginning with Z makes things so much easier.
