ring twice for service
Apr. 2nd, 2002 12:50 pmWhen I've tried to mailorder multiple copies of a CD, it's been from small labels, and usually they end up only sending me one. This happened again yesterday. It's funny... so few people order more than one copy of whatever they're listening to (because even if you give music as gifts, how do you know you want to give one away if you haven't heard it yet?) and thus I guess the folks on the other end just don't look at the 'quantity' field. But it's there because it COULD be useful, and since almost nobody orders multiples, the people who write standard e-commerce packages for small web businesses have no strong incentive to take out the quantity box, even though it's an attractive nuisance.
So I gave the one disc we got to my roommate, but in the email to the label, I said "my roommate will be steamed!" because I figured claiming altruism would make it look like I was scamming them.
